Anker Innovations, a global tech giant and manufacturer of charging technology products and innovators of smart devices for entertainment, travel, and smart homes has picked Kenya as its launch pad in the East African market.
“We are excited to venture into the Kenyan market which has the highest share of internet usage through mobile phones, this means constant charging of the phone due to high power consumption as a result this either hinders movement or business transaction due to low or no phone charge. We are therefore here purposely to ensure nothing holds you back from doing your business while on the move,” he said
Anker products will be distributed locally through Sweech, a local online store that will be mandated to recruit other distributors throughout the country to enhance product availability.
The firm is known for producing wireless chargers, car and wall chargers, as well as portable alternatives, plan to exploit the country’s potential with 91 penetration of mobile subscriptions compared to Africa’s 80 percent.
Regional Sales Head, GCC, and Africa, Faraz Mehdi said Kenya was on the right track in developing ICT infrastructure which is contributing to a paradigm shift with new innovations destroying the old ways of doing business. This has seen a tremendous increase in the use of mobile phones to transact businesses.
“In Kenya Smartphones have become a necessity to live particularly during this Covid-19 pandemic period as it is also used to aid in education, especially for children. It helps in easy access to information and helpful content that assists children in more interactive learning through watching education videos and playing education programs,” Ganijee added.
Ammar Ganijee head of operations from Sweech limited said the majority of smartphone users in Kenya are largely on social media sites, e-learning, accessing games, music, and news. However, a substantial number are also increasingly using their phones to access essential financial products.
He said this requires constant phone powering and the launch Anker products offers a sigh of relief for many who spend approximately 3 – 5 hours a day on social media sites.
He said an aggressive countrywide campaign to establish more distributors will be in top gear to tap into the growing opportunities.
