Deputy President Gachagua Promises Government Support

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pledged government assistance in the wake of a devastating flash flood that wreaked havoc in Mai Mahiu, Kenya.

In a telephone interview with Inooro FM, Gachagua confirmed the grim news of the tragedy, stating that the search and rescue operation for missing individuals had entered its second day.

“We have 46 people in the mortuary but we have more bodies being taken there so they will be about 71. There are many others who are still missing and a search is ongoing. We pray that we find them alive. If they are dead then we will say God is never questioned,” remarked Gachagua.

The flash floods, triggered by the bursting of a water body in Kijabe, swept through homes in Mai Mahiu on Monday, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

The scale of the disaster has shocked the nation, with Mai Mahiu recording the highest number of fatalities in a single flood-related incident in recent memory.

In response to the catastrophe, President William Ruto has convened a special cabinet meeting at State House to address the floods disaster, which has claimed over 160 lives across the country.

The government is mobilizing all available resources to provide relief and support to affected communities.

Gachagua also announced the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers to assist in the search and rescue efforts alongside other agencies.

The collaborative response underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens in times of crisis.
