MultiChoice, in partnership with Africa Magic, has announced the dates for the highly anticipated 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), set to take place from May 10th to May 11th, 2024.

The organizers have also revealed that Femi Odugbemi, an acclaimed filmmaker, director, producer, and the pioneer Academy Director of the MultiChoice Talent Factory, will serve as the head judge for this year’s awards.

At last year’s ninth edition of the AMVCA, Kenya emerged victorious, securing three awards through the TV shows “Njoro Wa Uber” and “Click Click Bang.” Click Click Bang show directed by Philip Karanja Njenga, scooped two awards – the Best Movie, East Africa, and Best Indigenous Language, Swahili (Movie/TV Series) – while “Njoro Wa Uber” won the prestigious Best Original Comedy award.

During a press conference held in Nigeria, Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, described the upcoming 10th AMVCA as a celebration marking a decade of brilliance, innovation, and the captivating essence of African storytelling on screen.

Dr Tejumola also emphasized the challenge posed by the high-quality entries received this year, which will require thorough review by the jury and the head judge.

“For this edition, we have received entries from films and talent across Africa. Shortlisting has already begun, and we will proceed to the judging phases. In this special edition, we are introducing changes to the award categories. The Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress categories will now be determined by the jury. Additionally, we are delighted to announce Femi Odugbemi as the Head Judge for the 10th AMVCA.”

“In collaboration with our sponsors – Amstel, Pepsi, Promasidor, and Martell – we invite Africa to join us in this celebration. The final nominees in each category will be announced live across all Africa Magic channels on March 24th at 8 p.m. Following the announcement, the voting portal will open immediately,” Tejumola said.

The two-day celebration of the 10th AMVCA will commence on May 10th with the Young Filmmakers and Content Creators event in the morning, followed by the Cultural Day and Opening Night celebration in the evening. The Main Awards Ceremony will take place on the night of May 11th, 2024.

Speaking about the jury’s responsibility, Odugbemi stated, “This prestigious award is known for its dedication to excellence, and the jury is committed to ensuring that only the most outstanding works earn a spot on the nomination list. Having served as the head judge in previous editions, I can attest that evaluating the remarkable submissions by talent across Africa is an extremely challenging task. However, I assure everyone that the final selection will truly represent the best in the field.”

Other sponsors of the 10th AMVCA include TECNO, Verve, QuickTeller, Tiger Beer, MTN, and Indomie. The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards is an annual accolade presented by MultiChoice, recognizing outstanding achievements in film and television production in Africa.
