Get ready for a thrilling ride as Showmax, the popular African streaming service, unveils its latest Original title in Kenya, Faithless. Premiering on July 6, 2023, this 10-part crime drama series takes viewers on a gripping journey through the aftermath of a botched heist. Faithless delves into the lives of four church women who find themselves entangled in a web of crime and violence when their women’s guild, known as chama, is transformed into a money laundering operation by a ruthless crime lord.

Faithless revolves around Esther, a struggling waitress who inadvertently discovers the proceeds of a robbery. To her shock, she realizes that her brother, Benja, was one of the masterminds behind the crime. Meanwhile, Cain, a merciless criminal who suffered substantial losses in the heist, utilizes all his resources to track down the stolen money and exact vengeance on those responsible. Caught in a moral dilemma, Esther, alongside her church friends Ruth, Hope, and Deborah, must confront the challenge to either use the ill-gotten gains for good or succumb to the temptations that come with such a dangerous secret.

The show boasts a talented ensemble cast. Rosemary Waweru (Tabasamu) takes on the lead role of Esther, while Avril Nyambura (Pepeta), Beatrice Mwai (Paa), and Fatma Mohammed (Kina) portray her three church friends. Additionally, viewers can expect remarkable performances from Aleks Kamau (Volume), Morris Mwangi (Famous), Peter Kamau (Selina), Arabron Nyyneque (Second Family), Abubakar Mwenda (Subira), Brian Ngaira (Pepeta), Antony Kyule Njuguna (Sue na Jonnie), Ashley Kareez (Single Kiasi), Steve Matias (State House), Kennedy Luyali (18 Hours), Zawadi Kayyoh (Pieces of Us), and renowned news anchor Mark Masai.

Produced by Live Eye TV, Faithless is helmed by the experienced duo of Abdi Shuria and King Muriuki, who previously directed the thrilling Showmax series Igiza. Janet Chumbe also contributes her directorial expertise to the project, making it a dynamic collaboration.

Unique Themes and Relatable Characters: Executive producer Auka Gecheo describes Faithless as a truly unique series due to its exploration of church adherents becoming involved in crime. The show’s focus on women as central characters adds relatability, reflecting the challenges faced by mothers, sisters, and wives in their daily lives. Faithless delves into the complex inner turmoil of humans, highlighting the conflicts between faith and money, and how individuals justify their actions and sins in the name of the “greater good.”

As Showmax continues to invest in Kenya, Faithless represents their dedication to providing premium shows that not only entertain but also elevate the local industry. Denise Mwende, Showmax Content Specialist in East Africa, expresses excitement about Faithless and its exploration of human struggles and the attempt to rationalize actions for the greater good. With a talented team behind the scenes, Showmax aims to captivate Kenyan viewers and create a lasting impact.

Faithless joins an impressive lineup of Showmax Originals released in Kenya in 2023. This includes the second season of the drama series Single Kiasi, the first Original telenovela Second Family, and the reality series The Real Housewives of Nairobi and Kyallo Kulture.
