Lang’ata-based politician Johnson Oduk has praised President William Ruto for his recent decision to reverse a proposed energy partnership with India’s Adani Group. The move has been hailed by Oduk as a step toward safeguarding Kenya’s economic sovereignty and promoting transparency in the energy sector.

Speaking to the press, Oduk highlighted the importance of placing national interests at the forefront of energy agreements. “President Ruto’s decision reflects his commitment to protecting our country’s resources and ensuring that partnerships are not only mutually beneficial but also conducted with the highest level of integrity,” he said.

The Adani Group, one of the largest multinational conglomerates in India, had faced scrutiny for its alleged opaque dealings in other countries. Concerns had been raised locally about the potential implications of the partnership on Kenya’s energy market, including issues of pricing, accountability, and long-term environmental impact.

Oduk emphasized that Kenya should focus on fostering local energy solutions and empowering homegrown companies to lead in renewable energy development. He called on the government to prioritize partnerships that align with Kenya’s long-term goals of achieving energy independence and sustainability.

“Kenya is blessed with vast renewable energy resources. By leveraging solar, wind, and geothermal power, we can create jobs, lower energy costs, and reduce our reliance on external entities,” Oduk added.

The Lang’ata politician, known for his active engagement in business and community affairs, urged the government to remain vigilant in scrutinizing future proposals from international investors. He reiterated that while foreign partnerships are vital for economic growth, they must align with Kenya’s values and development aspirations.

Oduk’s statement reflects a broader sentiment among stakeholders in Kenya, advocating for transparency and accountability in energy policies. As the country moves forward, President Ruto’s decision is being viewed as a pivotal moment in ensuring equitable and sustainable development in Kenya’s energy sector.
