The relief food will support over 2,000 needy families in the county affected by the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

Pan-African housing development financier Shelter Afrique through its foundation, the Shelter Afrique Foundation, has donated relief package to County Government of Machakos to support 2,000 needy families affected by the Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

The relief package received by the Governor of Machakos County Dr. Alfred Mutua included maize meal, beans, green grams, cooking oil, salt, sugar, and detergents and sanitizers.

Handing over the items to Dr. Mutua in the company of Shelter Afrique’s Board Chairman Steve Mainda, Shelter Afrique Chief Executive Officer Andrew Chimphondah said the Company has had a mutually beneficial relationship with the County of Machakos, having funded several housing projects in the county.

“We have invested 1000 homes at Everest Park and also at riverside estate in Athi River.  But we don’t just do construction of housing, Shelter Afrique is also a responsible corporate citizen and we are driven by the desire to support the needy during this hard time,” Mr. Chimphondah said.

Receiving the donations, Dr. Mutua said the County had struck a deal with the National Cereal and Produce Board (NCPB) to collect and store food stuffs donated towards the Covid-19 pandemic.

“All the food stuffs have a place to go and we already a committee who will be coordinating the distribution to the needy,” Dr. Mutua said.

Shelter Afrique Foundation has so far provided relief materials to over 6,000 beneficiaries across Africa during the crisis.

The Shelter Afrique Foundation was established in 2016 to support Shelter Afrique’s advocacy and research work. While active in advocacy and research, the relief donations mark the first Corporate Social Responsibility of the organization that targets low-income beneficiaries.
