HMD cancels participation at MWC 2020
Finish tech Company, HMD Global has today joined a long list of tech companies to withdraw from the Mobile World Congress.
According to a statement from HMD, the primary focus for the company is the health and well-being of its employees and its stakeholders, and this is what informed their decision to withdraw from participating in this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
HMD has announced that they will update the media, partners, and customers on a new timeline for their product announcements and probably the way they are planning to announce them.
HMD Global has been carefully monitoring the situation following the outbreak of Covid-19. After much deliberation, we have decided to cancel our participation at MWC Barcelona, 2020.
MWC Barcelona has always been a key event in our annual calendar and we were very excited to showcase our new products to our partners, customers, media and fans. However, the health and safety of our employees, customers, and stakeholders is our highest priority. We believe the prudent decision is to cancel our participation at Mobile World Congress and want to express our sincere thanks to the GSMA and other authorities for their tireless efforts to address the challenges resulting from Covid-19, and they have our full support as they move forward.
We will update the media, our partners and customers on a new timeline for our product announcements.
As it stands, it seems like a matter of when and not if MWC 2020 will be canceled. The odds really are towards cancellation of the whole congress considering the number of companies that have till now withdrawn their participation such as Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, and LG
