How Samsung has become the benchmark for Android updates

On 11 February Samsung launched game-changing devices, ‘the phone to end all cameras’ the Galaxy S20 models, and the much anticipated Galaxy Z Flip. These devices have already captured the imagination of the world with features like the Galaxy S20’s 100X Zoom and the hands-free selfie on the Galaxy Z Flip. With Android 10 released just a few months ago Samsung had to ensure the latest update was raring to go as soon as these new devices were first powered up.
Samsung’s partnership with Android protects customers with necessary security updates and ensures that the apps are enjoyed at peak performance. Samsung releases dozens of new phones every year, including multiple variants of the same device with different RAM and storage configurations, dual-SIM or single-SIM, and Exynos or Snapdragon processors. This includes all the different operator certifications these devices have to pass through and the many countries the phones are sent to. This is an enormous task when the volume of the job is taken into account. Despite this, Samsung has risen to become the master of Android updates.
“Our partnership with Android is one that is integral to our business and most importantly, our customers. Ensuring the timeous implementation of the latest Android updates is, therefore, a priority. We are therefore pleased to have continuously improved our systems to not only remain on track with Android updates but also enhance how our interface works with Android” said Dudu Mokholo, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung Central Africa.
Android 10, the latest update was a great example of Samsung’s focus on ensuring customers get the benefit as soon as possible. Google officially released Android 10 on September 3. With both major OTA rollouts and monthly security patches, Samsung’s strategy is ensuring they are the OEM to beat for Android updates.
