Dettol, a leading hygiene and disinfection solutions provider, has partnered with the Ministry of Health to promote hand hygiene as part of Global Handwashing Day celebrations in Kenya. The event, themed “Why Are Clean Hands Still Important?”, was held at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Manza Campus in Machakos County.

As part of the celebration, Dettol distributed its Original Antibacterial soap, demonstrating proper handwashing techniques through the Epuka Uchafu Initiative, a collaboration between the county and national government. The event also included community cleanup activities at Manza Market and a tree-planting exercise, underscoring a holistic approach to public health and environmental well-being.

Margaret Ngea, Senior Brand Manager at Dettol Reckitt Kenya, emphasized the importance of hand hygiene.

“Dettol is committed to advancing hand hygiene education across Kenya. Our goal is to provide access to high-quality hygiene products that protect against germs and support the overall health and well-being of Kenyans,” she said. “Handwashing with soap is a simple yet powerful way to prevent diseases and save lives.”

Global Handwashing Day, observed every year on October 15, raises awareness of the critical role handwashing with soap plays in preventing diseases. However, data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics reveals that only 51% of Kenyans have access to handwashing facilities with soap and water at home, highlighting the ongoing need for initiatives like this to improve public health standards across the country.
