M-PESA Foundation Holds Integrated Medical Camp in Vihiga County, Benefitting Over 3,000 Residents

M-PESA Foundation, in partnership with Zuri Health and Lion Sight First Eye Hospital, has benefitted over 3,000 residents in Vihiga County through a free medical camp that was held at Gisambai Primary School.
Among the key medical services provided at the camp included women’s health consultations, where women received services such as breast cancer screening, prenatal clinics, antenatal checkups and child clinics. Other services included eye care consultations, dental screenings and general doctor consultations.
Earlier on, the Foundation handed over 100 Mama Packs to new mothers and expectant women at Vihiga County Referral Hospital in an effort to boost maternal health.
“Health is one of our key pillars at the Foundation. We invested in integrated medical camps as part of our programmes to increase access to quality healthcare. Vihiga marks the 39th medical camp we have held since we began in 2023 covering 35 counties. We have integrated technology into these camps, to enable us to follow up on patients’ progress after getting treatment. Through partnerships with county governments ensuring we reach more communities,” said Karen Basiye, Executive Director, M-Pesa Foundation.
Vihiga is the 35th County M-Pesa Foundation has held since it launched the medical camp programme which has benefitted residents in Nairobi, Machakos, Taita Taveta, Nakuru, Kwale, Siaya, Migori, Kajiado and Kisii among others.
Leveraging technology, the camps offer patients free follow-up consultations with doctors via SMS and WhatsApp for up to six months.
Last Month, M-Pesa Foundation broke ground on a KES 60 million maternity unit at the Vihiga Referral Hospital which is expected to significantly improve health services in the county and its environs.
The Foundation has also invested in education in the county with the most recent handover of school facilities to Gamoi Primary School and the groundbreaking of learning infrastructure at Chekomebero Special School.
