Garissa Farm Employee Wins Last Lipa Na M-PESA Apartment

Safaricom has today announced Joshua Muthui as the sixth and last winner of a three-bedroom apartment in Nairobi’s Riruta estate in the ongoing Lipa Na M-PESA promotion. The promotion continues to 5th March 2020 with Lipa Na M-PESA customers getting the chance to win eight tractors each with a plough and trailer across eight regions, with one tractor per region.
Joshua, aged 24, hails from Nuu in Mwingi Sub-County of Kitui County and has been working in Nasi Farm in Garissa, cultivating mangoes and bananas. He often fuels a motorbike and purchases diesel for use at the farm at a local petrol station and pays with Lipa Na M-PESA.
“I prefer paying with Lipa Na M-PESA when paying for farm supplies because it is more convenient and cheaper than withdrawing the money then making a payment. Winning this apartment is a big breakthrough for me having had few opportunities in my life,” said Joshua.
Since the Lipa Na M-PESA promotion began on 8th January 2020, Safaricom has awarded six apartments to customers and 120 Tuktuks to Lipa Na M-PESA merchants. Safaricom has also been awarding a surprise cashback to 8 customers every minute for paying with Lipa Na M-PESA. Merchants get 25 percent refund of their Lipa Na M-PESA transaction charges as a cashback every night.
“Lipa Na M-PESA has made it easy and convenient for millions of customers and thousands of businesses across the country to make and receive payments. Beyond rewarding our customers for their loyalty, it has been encouraging to see this promotion make a difference for our winners including Joshua today, said Rita Okuthe, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Safaricom.
Previous apartment winners include Reuben Keitany from Bomet, Samuel Gathiru from Naromoru, Salma Mohammed from Mombasa, Joseph Kipkurui from Burnt Forest and Edward Oluoch from Bondo.
The promotion was open to both customers and businesses who make and receive payments through Lipa Na M-PESA.
