Mike Sonko nominates Anne Mwenda as deputy governor

After nearly two in office without a deputy, embattled Nairobi governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, today nominated Anne Kananu Mwenda as the deputy governor on Nairobi County.
Governor Sonko, in a letter to Nairobi assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi, said that his decision was in line with Article 180 (5) of the constitution and the Supreme Court Advisory of March 2018.
“Given the foregoing, and in the interest of ensuring stability at Kenya’s Capital City and largest County by economy and population, I do hereby nominate Anne Kananu Mwenda to the position of Deputy Governor.”

Anne Mwenda is the current chief officer, a position she has held diligently and surprisingly since April 2018, considering the constant reshuffles that have hit Sonko’s administration since his election as the Governor of Nairobi. Anne has also be holding the position of Chief officer of water in an acting capacity for the last two months.
Her nomination comes two years after Polycarp Igathe’s resignation citing frustrations and his inability to earn Sonko’s trust.
