Bunge la Mwananchi president intimidated by EACC to drop Case
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is on the spot for colluding with top officials at the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to sabotage the effort by civil society organizations chase for justice at the East Africa Court in Arusha.
Details have now emerged that KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u had offered to support civil society Bunge la Mwananchi in their quest for justice but made a U-turn and fabricated charges against its president.
Speaking to the press yesterday, Bunge la Mwananchi president Francis Awino said he received a call from EACC to visit their headquarters only to be arrested and fabricated charges put on him.
“I was called at the EACC headquarters only to be arrested that I was receiving a bribe, which is false. We have been planning to travel to Arusha for the mention of our case which we filed in August and the same people had offered to support us in the search of justice for the young people killed during the anti-government protests and people forcefully evicted during floods.” Awino stated.
He revealed that some security officers have been trailing him since filing the case, and some government officials have told him to drop the petition.
Awino said that his stand for justice to be served is what has brought him trouble adding that he is ready to die for justice to be served.
“If it means to die for justice to be served, I am ready for that. They are trying to frustrate us but we shall not relent until all the families that lost their loved ones get justice and those that were forcefully evicted get compensated.” He said.
Yesterday, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission alluded to having arrested the Bunge la Mwananchi president for taking a bribe from a state corporation which they did not mention.
They also revealed to have released him without pressing any charges against him which is contrary to their tradition and the law raising eyebrows on the reasons behind his arrest.
