The Embu County Public Service Board has raised the red flag over a fake jobs scam targeting members of the public.

In an advisory to the public, board Chairman Alfred Kamau cautioned job seekers to be wary of a clique of unscrupulous individuals extorting cash with promises of securing jobs at the devolved unit.

“The clique of scammers often pose as brokers or employees of the Embu County Public Service Board”, the Chairman said.

Lately, the scammers have taken advantage of joblessness to deceive the job seekers that they can secure jobs for them at a fee, he added.

In the last fortnight the Embu County Revenue Authority published an advertisement for recruitment of Revenue officers.

“The scammers took advantage of the job advert to extort millions of shillings from the public under the guise of securing permanent jobs, we can not allow them to continue taking advantage of Kenyans” Kamau said.

Embu County is an equal opportunity employer and no money is charged for one to qualify for employment.

Further, the board noted that the Embu County Public Service Board has not appointed third parties to act on its behalf.

Kamau said that the matter  had already been reported to the police for investigations.

“Residents and members of the public who have fallen victim are hereby advised to report any cases of extortation to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) or contact to the county public service board, “he said

” At all times, the county service board ensures fairness. , equity, gender and regional balance when recruiting staff as a way of promoting inclusivity and fair treatment to all”, Kamau said.
