Nation Media Group Wins 7th Standard Chartered Cup Futsal Tournament

30th November 2024, Nairobi – Nation Media Group emerged victorious at the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup Futsal Tournament, defeating Deloitte A 1-0 in a thrilling final held at St. Mary’s School grounds, Nairobi.

The annual event brought together 280 players across 40 teams, including corporate entities, SME banking clients, media partners, and Liverpool FC fans, in a display of exceptional talent and sportsmanship. Over 95 high-intensity matches were played, with teams competing fiercely for the coveted title.

Nation Media Group secured their win after topping Group H and progressing through the knockout stages. Notable highlights included their semifinal victory over BATUK A (2-0) and the decisive goal in the final that secured their triumph. The team’s stellar performance was further underscored by goalkeeper Brian Mwasya’s recognition as the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Radio Africa Group’s Alex Amudavi earned the golden boot with eight goals.

A Celebration of Sport and Partnership
The Standard Chartered Cup celebrates the bank’s partnership with Liverpool FC and promotes camaraderie, fair play, and competitive spirit among amateur players.

Nation FC’s players have earned an all-expenses-paid trip to Anfield, Liverpool FC’s iconic stadium, where they will watch Liverpool take on Arsenal in May 2025. The experience includes an exclusive training session at the Liverpool FC Academy, a behind-the-scenes stadium tour, and a visit to Liverpool’s historic museums.

Captain Elijah Ouko expressed gratitude, calling the trip “a dream come true.” Liverpool legend Jason McAteer, who attended the event, lauded the winners, saying, “Visiting Anfield and experiencing its incredible atmosphere will be unforgettable.”
