International Jazz Day 2020: A Celebration of Music, Food and Wine at Home

Published

on

April 30th is International Jazz Day, a day set aside by UNESCO each year to celebrate the distinctive and diverse music’s unique ability to unite people from all over the world. Whilst Jazz Day would normally offer up a bevy of live concerts, talks and festivities, like many other events and occasions around the globe, this year’s celebrations have largely been put on hold (offline at least). Despite this, there’s no reason we can’t mark the special day at home by listening to good music and enjoying great food and wine.

For jazz aficionados who love nothing more than listening to the classics or exploring the latest sounds while relaxing in the comfort of their own home, here are some tips on how to make the most of International Jazz Day 2020.

Mesmerize Your Ears and Eyes

When it comes to virtual or live-streamed concerts, premium home entertainment solutions can really help to make you feel as though you’re right there with the musicians. For a pleasurable listening experience, you need to be able to clearly hear the deep bass, the rich horns and smoky vocals, not to mention the stunning improvisation and interplay that are so much a part of jazz. But a new dimension is added when you also get to see the performers, to watch the music take over them, and observe how band members feed off of one another to create music that truly takes on a life of its own.

This year, a virtual Global Concert featuring artists from across the globe will be streamed live on the International Jazz Day website, helping jazz fans worldwide enjoy the music they love whilst safely ensconced in their own living rooms. To really replicate the concert-going experience, a super-sized TV like the 88-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED TV can make all the difference. Featuring a stunning OLED screen that fills your field of vision with ultra-sharp images and lifelike colors, and equipped with Dolby Atmos for the most breathtakingly detailed and vibrant, three-dimensional sound, the TV transports you to the best seats in the house, and even right up onto the stage with the performers themselves.

Awaken Your Taste Buds

Like most things in life, listening to jazz is made even better when served with great food. International Jazz Day is the perfect excuse to conjure up a delicious meal, one that befits the occasion and helps you to savor the music just that much more. A well-chosen food pairing can awaken the senses, helping you to recall the highlights of a memorable concert or the sounds and smells of an atmospheric club and the terrific bands you witnessed there.

Making good food means making sure you have fresh, delicious ingredients on hand. And to maintain optimal freshness for all of your favorite ingredients, you need a fridge with precise, adjustable temperature control. With customizable settings for storing a wide range of items – from steak to deli meats, from fresh fruit and vegetables to artisan cheese – the Custom Chill™ Pantry featured in LG SIGNATURE’s refrigerator keeps everything at its absolute best for longer. And while you’re preparing the ultimate edible accompaniment for the big day, why not put on some Miles Davis, John Coltrane or Wynton Marsalis to set the mood.

Drink the Perfect Accompaniment

Enjoying a nice drink while listening to music is, for many, an ideal way to relax and recover from the stresses of a busy schedule. Some argue that different music genres pair well with certain drinks, such as rock n’ roll and whiskey, or hip-hop and cognac. Though by no means the only beverage associated with jazz, wine has undoubtedly become a favorite accompaniment, as evidenced by the large number of vineyards worldwide hosting annual jazz festivals. Indeed, the two art forms have become so inextricably linked that, oftentimes, jazz and wine are described in practically the same way. Jazz music offers nuance, subtle notes and intriguing layers that warrant repeated listening…just as a good wine contains flavors both bold and quiet, with exquisite tonalities that are best savored and revisited.

Regardless of what kind of wine you like to pair with an evening of jazz – red, white, sparkling or rosé – it is a good idea to have a storage solution that can chill your bottles to the right temperature. Should there be half a bottle of white Burgundy or Barolo left over, there’s no need to pour it down the kitchen sink. Specialist appliances like the LG SIGNATURE Wine Cellar can preserve the unique flavors of several different varieties at once. LG’s advanced product is able to do this thanks to the company’s own Multi Temperature Control feature, which creates separate, climate-controlled sections with custom temperature settings.

In the words of world-renowned wine critic James Suckling, LG SIGNATURE brand ambassador and jazz lover, “great wine, and jazz always enhance one another and set the tone for enjoyment no matter the place or time.” An encouraging thought and something to remember as we make preparations to honor and revel in the great gift of jazz this April 30.
